“Mommy Dearest” is the anti-Mother’s Day comedy show

While Hallmark and Instagram may lead one to believe that Mother’s Day is all about aesthetic brunch and fresh-cut flowers for the matriarchal figure in your life, a few of us have a different relationship with dear old mum.

For those looking to celebrate the fact that they’re not celebrating Mother’s Day, Mommy Dearest: A Comedy Show for People with Sh--tty and/or Dead Moms may be the show for you. Whether by choice, abandonment, or even death, local comedians Amber Harper-Young, Megan Milton, and Danielle Florence find the humour and humanity in complicated relationships with mother figures through their personal experiences.

“Humour is a coping mechanism for lots of people, and I’m no exception to that,” Milton says in a statement. “When I first started talking about my upbringing on stage, I realized that even my most bizarre experiences are not unique, and people tell me my comedy makes them feel vindicated and less alone.”
