Where to grab an excellent matcha latte in Vancouver

As a self-proclaimed matcha enthusiast, I admit that a good matcha latte is sometimes the only thing keeping me from falling apart.

If not prepared correctly, matcha lattes can taste watery, muddy, grassy, or bitter. But when they’re done right, they’re creamy, full-flavoured perfection. Here are some of my favourite spots in Vancouver to grab a good one.

      Cowdog Coffee

Cowdog Coffee has gained popularity on social media for its unique pop-up cafe concept. It does not charge for milk substitutions and does not accept tips. Currently, it operates out of Dear Gus Snack Bar two days a week while searching for its permanent location. The strawberry matcha is made with an in-house strawberry puree and features matcha from Cultivate Tea, ensuring not only an Instagrammable drink but a tasty one, too. Prepare to be patient, though; this spot is known for its long lines of eager fans.

      Paragon Tea Room

The Black Sesame Matcha Oat bubble tea from Paragon Tea Room on Cambie is a must-try if you're searching to amp up the savoury-sweet interplay of your matcha. The smooth tea paired with nutty black sesame makes this drink a classic Japanese flavour pairing. The space itself is a stunning green tea room where you can indulge in treats, such as bubble waffles and matcha-infused hot cross buns, and shop the extensive collection of ground matcha and supplies to make your perfect cup at home.

      Lumine Coffee

Known for its multi-roast coffee options and house-made baked goods, Lumine might not come to mind when in search of a matcha latte while in Kitsilano, but it should. Much like the location, I promise the charm is unassuming but plentiful. The staff is friendly and the matcha latte is classic and perfectly balanced, making it a go-to whenever I find myself on West 4th.

      Whisk Matcha Cafe

For all things matcha, Whisk Matcha Cafe—the brick-and-mortar home of Whisk Premium Matcha—is a must-visit. Whisk probably has anything your matcha-loving heart desires. From classic iced options to frappes, ice cream, and even lemonade, this spot takes matcha to a whole new level. Plus, it shares the space with Level V Bakery, so picking a vegan treat to go with your tea is easy (and ever-tempting).

      Nemesis Coffee

Known for its innovative baked goods and pastries (tiramisu croissant, anyone?), Nemesis Coffee often features limited-edition matcha flavours and offerings—and the latest is an ube matcha that has consumed my cravings. This purple concoction is made with sweet ube and earthy matcha, with a hint of mango for brightness. Nemesis, consider this my plea to keep this as a regular menu item.
