Trevor Linden to announce retirement from NHL

The Vancouver Canucks have issued a statement inviting media to General Motors Place on Wednesday morning (June 11) for what the team is calling, "A special announcement from Trevor Linden".

Exactly 20 years to the day after Linden was drafted 2nd overall by the Vancouver Canucks in 1988, the popular forward will announce his retirement from the Canucks and the National Hockey League. The official word will come at 11 a.m. on Wednesday morning.

Linden played 20 seasons in the NHL with the Canucks, New York Islanders, Montreal Canadians, and Washington Capitals.

He is the Canucks franchise leader in games played (1,140) and has earned a special place in the hearts of Vancouverites through his tireless charitable efforts and contributions.

This message is for Trevor Linden and The Vancouver Canucks owner, and coach: Please Trevor play another season, we love you, you can't go!!! And if they are smart they will do anything for you to stay. I think every Canuck fan would beg you to stay if we could. Now on a personal note: I bet my husband #16 did not play his last game which we we were at (sadly enough, sorry to say). My husband said Linden will not be back. So if you play again Trevor, my husband owes me a vaction and if not, I owe him one. So there's much at stake here not just Vancouver would miss the greatest Canuck of all time, but I would have lost the bet!!!! Please Stay!!!
