Everywhere you go, it seems, someone is talking about those human feet washing ashore on British Columbia beaches.
After a reported sixth foot appeared at Campbell River on June 18, it sent the international media into a tizzy. CNN and all the other giants suddenly took an interest in the story.
The next day--after it appeared above the fold on page one of the Vancouver Sun--this latest human-foot finding was revealed as a hoax by the RCMP.
Police are now seeking information on what is now being called the Campbell River Shoe Hoax, which involved stuffing dead animal parts into a size 10 Adidas sneaker.
But the mystery carries on. DNA from the feet do not match anyone who is listed as missing. We don't know if foul play is involved.
Let's hope this isn't some replay of the grisly biker wars in Quebec, where bodies were dumped by the dozens into the St. Lawrence River in the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s.
