Port Coquitlam mayor Scott Young's bio omits assault

On weekends, I like perusing the council agendas in various municipalities. There is no meeting on Monday in Port Coquitlam, so I decided to check out the biography of Mayor Scott Young.

I learned some things.

For instance, I never knew that Young previously worked in the newspaper printing industry.

He is an "active supporter" of the Port Coquitlam Heritage and Cultural Society, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 133, and the Hyde Creek Watershed Society.

I do know that Young had a decent voting record when he served on the board of TransLink, and he was also a pretty good director of Metro Vancouver.

But a funny thing crossed my mind. His bio makes no mention of his conviction last month on two charges of assault and one count of breaching the conditions of an undertaking.

For some reason, this wasn't deemed of interest to Port Coquitlam residents or anyone else who visits the municipal Web site.

The Crown stayed four other charges against Young, including one of criminal harassment, which is the Criminal Code term to describe stalking.

The charges came after Young barged into his former girlfriend's home and attacked her and a male friend.

The mayor will be sentenced on July 25.
