On a summer’s day, there are few places as atmospheric for a concert or show than the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Park courtyard. It’s fitting, then, that the Chinatown Arts and Cultural Festival should use it as an outdoor stage every Saturday this month. For the event on Saturday (July 5) from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., the theme is Asia Day, with crafts, visual art, dancers, and music. But the point of the new fest is to welcome other cultures as well: July 12 is Africa day; July 19 is Drums Around the World; and July 26 finds Traditions of Old Russia (all 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.). Sounds like a perfect solution to rising airfares: a way to travel the globe without leaving Vancouver.
