George Chow considering exit from city politics

Vision Vancouver councillor George Chow wants to learn a new language. The Cantonese-speaking first-term councillor says he can brush up on his Mandarin, for a start. He also wants to do some renovations on his house. Or perhaps start a new business with one of his two daughters, perhaps in travel.

Anything other than running for another term on council. But Chow notes that he’ll make a final decision whether or not to leave civic politics after the summer.

“I’m thinking about what’s the best use of my time,” Chow told the Straight. “I would do something else. There are other things I could do.”

Chow also said that he has informed members of the Vision Vancouver caucus he’s not 100-
percent sure that he wants to go through a reelection campaign.

“Even if I don’t run, I could help,” Chow said about the fall election. He had earlier supported councillor Raymond Louie in the Vision mayoral nomination that was won by NDP Vancouver-Fairview MLA Gregor Robertson. Louie had said that if he lost the nomination, he’d seek reelection as councillor.
