Newton-North Delta has more than 50,000 residents of South Asian descent, which is the largest number of any riding in the province.

The riding has been held since 2006 by Liberal Sukh Dhaliwal. Before that, the MP was Conservative Gurmant Grewal, whose wife Nina is still the MP in neighbouring Fleetwood-Port Kells.

The riding includes the Surrey campus of Kwantlen Polytechnic University; the median age of 35.2 in the riding makes it one of the youngest in B.C.

It's an area popular with immigrants and families because there is more affordable housing than in areas closer to Vancouver.

The NDP has nominated Delta school board vice-chair Teresa Townsley. The Conservatives have nominated former federal political assistant Sandheep Pander.

The riding is on the edge of Burns Bog, and in past elections, environmental issues have been raised during the campaign. Immigration is another major issue.
