Tracy Myerson opened Jett Grrl Bike Studios (243A Union Street, 604-255-5097) three years ago as an alternative to the attitude-heavy, masculine culture of most bike shops. "You don't have to be a bike geek, and you don't have to have a fancy bike to get good service," Myerson says. At the Jett Grrl intro classes, Myerson explains and demonstrates the basic elements of bike maintenance and repair and answers all questions with respect and patience. A bonus aspect of Jett Grrl is that Myerson is an out dyke. She is dedicated to empowering women and queer cyclists but emphasizes that her business is open to everyone.
