Sikh Coalition fights airport racism with FlyRights app

For too long, many travellers have dealt with extra pat downs and questioning due to racial profiling at airport security checkpoints. Now, Sikh, Muslim, South Asian, and other targeted travellers in the U.S. can report such incidents of racism right away using their smartphones.

Today (April 30), the New York-based Sikh Coalition launched a free iPhone and Android app that allows users to quickly and easily file complaints with the Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security. With FlyRights, travellers can report discrimination on the basis of race, ethnicity, religion, nationality, gender, and disability.

The Sikh Coalition expects the app to "exponentially" increase the number of complaints being filed. Amardeep Singh, director of programs at the coalition, states in a news release: “The TSA asserts it doesn’t profile. This application will allow us to better assess whether that’s true. All travelers now have an easy way of speaking to their government on the issue of airport profiling.”
