Is this Vancouver's largest cable spool?

      About four blocks from the Georgia Straight building, I spotted something I had never seen before: a massive spool being lowered by crane onto Pine Street just south of West 13th Avenue.

      The workers told me it previously held the now-underground fibre-optic cables that keep the city humming in the wired world.

      This empty spool, which was made in Japan, was about to be chopped up and put in a Dumpster. Nearby was a smaller spool with even more cable.

      This must be the work of Vision Vancouver! Only Gregor Robertson would think of ordering a spool that big. I'm so sick of this council and their spools.
