Take a bookish journey with “Lands Away”

After a certain amount of time spent trying to come up with a description for Snow White and the Huntsman (which, I’m happy to say, looks to be much more bearable than its recent predecessor Mirror Mirror), I got thinking about fairy tales. Have they permeated our culture to the point where a description, albeit a simple one, seems unnecessary?

In this short film, made as part of her thesis work, Katie Wynkoop “looks at the ways in which certain stories have become a part of the collective consciousness, to the point where they can be recognized at a glance.” Made with sculptures created from books and filmed through stop-motion animation, “Lands Away” treats well-known fairy tales and stories to a whimsical retelling.
