We’re often told to stop and smell the roses, but how often do we stop to listen to the sounds? Vancouver New Music presents two Soundwalks, happening on October 7 at 2 p.m. and October 14 at 2 p.m.

During a Soundwalk, participants are silently led along a planned route and are encouraged to experience the location’s underlying rhythms and sounds. This reveals the complex orchestration that the environment is composing at all times.

The first Soundwalk, titled “Sonic Treasure Hunt”, will begin at the VCC-Clark skytrain station on October 7. Led by Milena Droumeva and Brady Marks, this Soundwalk will help participants encounter hidden sounds drifting in and out of the environment around them.

The second Soundwalk, entitled “Lost and Found with the Acoustic Crew”, will begin in the main parking lot at West Vancouver’s Lighthouse Park on October 14. This Soundwalk will be led by members of the Vancouver Soundwalk Collective.

More information to these free events can be found at the Vancouver New Music website.
