Councillor Raymond Louie confirms council invited to 9/11 conference

It’s official.

Mayor Sam Sullivan and all 10 city councillors have received invitations and free tickets to the 9/11 Truth Conference.

On June 21, Vision Vancouver councillor Raymond Louie told the Straight via e-mail that "the invitation has arrived" in the form of a letter from Vancouver 9/11 Truth Society director Drew Noftle.

"On behalf of the Vancouver 9/11 Truth Society, I would like to personally invite each of you to attend our upcoming conference," Noftle wrote. "The Vancouver 9/11 Truth Conference will be focusing on exposing te [sic] flaws in the official narrative of 9/11, how Canada has changed since 9/11, and how our uranium industries production of depleted uranium munitions, and its effects overseas."

Added Noftle; "We apologize for our late invitation. We are a small group of people with a limited amount of hours to work with."

The Straight previously reported that, when canvassed, not any of the councillors had heard of the conference, though NPA councillor Peter Ladner was expecting a friend from California to attend during a visit to Vancouver.

Vision Vancouver councillor Tim Stevenson, a United Church minister, sang the praises of California-based theology professor David Ray Griffin, whom Stevenson claims is an "excellent theologian".

Griffin will not be attending the weekend conference, though he spoke in Vancouver on May 16 about his book, "Debunking 9/11 Debunking: An Answer to Popular Mechanics and Other Defenders of the Official Conspiracy Theory."

The conference runs June 22-24.
