Vancouver Opera announced the new James W. Wright Creativity Fund yesterday.

The fund, established by Vancouver Opera’s Foundation, was made to honour general director James W. Wright, who is retiring after 17 years with the company. It will support new works and encourage innovation in all aspects of opera production, according to the press statement. More details around this new initiative have yet to be released.

In addition to the legacy fund, Vancouver Opera Orchestra and Vancouver Opera Chorus will present an evening of music to recognize Wright at 7 p.m. on June 2 at Queen Elizabeth Theatre (650 Hamilton Street).

The program, entitled BraVO!, will be conducted by Music Director Jonathan Darlington. It will feature four renowned singers—coloratura soprano Tracy Dahl, mezzo-soprano Krisztina Szabó,  tenor John Tessier, and bass-baritone Daniel Okulitch—performing excerpts by Mozart, Bizet, Johann and Richard Strauss, among others. BraVO! will also feature selections from Verdi’s Nabucco and Puccini’s Madama Butterfly.

Tickets for BraVO! are $25, $50 or $75 and can be purchased through Vancouver Opera Ticket Centre by calling 604-683-0222 or purchasing online at www.vancouveropera.ca.
