Seen by a whopping 2.5 million North American theatergoers since its debut in 1994, Dr. Seuss’ How The Grinch Stole Christmas! The Musical is headed to Vancouver as a kick-off to the holiday season. Presented by Innovation Arts and Entertainment, the long-running Broadway hit will play The Centre in Vancouver from November 14 to 18.

Based on the children’s Christmas classic by Dr. Seuss, the production features music numbers arranged by Mel Marvinn and direction by Matt August, with the book by Timothy Mason.

As for what to expect, you’ve probably got a pretty good idea, starting with surrealist sets (by John Lee Beauty), a shaggy seaweed-green misanthrope with a heart two sizes too small for his body, and songs—”You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch”; “Welcome Christmas”—that have become deeply woven into the secular side of the holiday season.

Narrating the night will be Max the Dog, hopefully channeling the ghost of Boris Karloff circa 1966.
