Most 16-year-olds are busy learning how to drive or are focusing on surviving high school, but Ryan Wang has a few other things on his plate.

The local piano prodigy, who last year became the youngest musician to be listed in Classic FM’s Rising Stars 30 under 30, will be performing a recital at the Vancouver Playhouse on June 3.

The West Vancouver resident has been playing piano since the age of four and has fine-tuned his talents over the last decade, which led to a music scholarship at Eton College in the UK and time in the Artist Diploma program at École Normale de Musique de Paris in France.

Wang has travelled the world to perform at some of the industry’s most prestigious venues, including Carnegie Hall and a private recital at the Prime Minister’s residence. He’s also attracted more mainstream audiences thanks to an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

Next month, Wang makes his return home with a recital in Vancouver, presented by the Glenn Gould Foundation, a charitable institution inspired by iconic Canadian pianist Glenn Gould.

      Program:

      • F. Chopin 24 Preludes, Op. 28
      • F. Chopin Sonata No. 2 in B-flat minor, Op. 35
      • F. Liszt Réminiscences de Don Juan (S. 418)
