You Nearly Missed: North Shore Art Crawl

    1 of 1 2 of 1

It’s lucky (unlucky) Friday the 13, and the North Shore Art Crawl is celebrating its lucky 13th year.

The annual art event returns this year as a free in-person weekend event, inviting the public to experience the art, crafts, and design of more than 150 artists in venues around West Van and the City and District of North Van.

There’s plenty on offer across 69 participating venues, from galleries and studios to breweries and stores—and even the West Van Tennis Club. Take a self-guided art walk through the Indigenous, local, and international art on display at Park Royal; catch artist demos as they go through their process live; get involved creatively with interactive activities like Caroline Liggett’s large public-painted canvas; or shop for beautiful things at the Lonsdale Quay market.

“We are thrilled to host the North Shore Art Crawl, supporting local artists and connecting our community to these vibrant creatives,” says Nancy Cottingham Powell, executive director of North Van Arts, in a statement. “This is a great chance to go ‘behind the scenes’ and talk with the artists to learn the stories behind their work.”

Participating artists work across a huge range of mediums, varying from local emerging creatives to internationally known figures. At the Garden of Granite Wintery, you’ll find Amliora Design’s industrial designs and floral resin works alongside Alex Asai’s magazine-based large-scale works and Tuna Petrovicz’s cartoony illustrations. Elsewhere, Sylvia Ducceschi displays her wet felted sculptures; Majid Sheikh Akbari shows off soul food home decor; and 1950 Westover Road houses a painter, a jewellery maker, and a glass-worker.

Festivities kick off tonight at 7pm with receptions at certain locations, such as the Eagle Harbour Yacht Club, Welch Street Studios, Keith Jack Studio and Gallery, and Artisan Collective. Through Saturday and Sunday, venues are open from 11am to 5pm.
