After seven-and-a-half years at Vancouver magazine, John Burns will soon be saying goodbye to his colleagues.

The editor-in-chief of the Yellow Pages Limited–owned city magazine is leaving his position on July 24, according to the Canadian Magazines blog.

It reported that Burns will remain with the company until the September issue is completed.

He announced on Facebook that he will be joining Echo Storytelling Agency as its "story director" in mid August.

"Change is hard for everyone, so today I'm all about my wonderful co-workers and readers and industry colleagues," Burns wrote. "But yeah, I'm super excited about the next chapter of my story."

Burns was Vancouver magazine's executive editor for four-and-a-half years before he replaced Gary Ross in the top editorial position in 2012.

Over the years, Burns has also been a book editor, author, and university lecturer. For more than a decade, he worked at the Georgia Straight.

In May, Yellow Pages bought Vancouver magazine and Western Living from TC Media.
