When a restaurant creates delicious food, it makes sense for that establishment to expand. When the demand is high, the supply has to grow to meet those demands—and that’s exactly what Tacofino has been experiencing.

The local Mexican-meets-West Coast dining spot will be opening up its sixth brick-and-mortar spot tonight at 5 p.m., this time in Mount Pleasant (8 East 5th Avenue).

Located in a refurbished art-deco heritage building, the 2,800-square-foot space features a 100-seat dining room, horseshoe-shaped bar, and takeout counter.

Vancouver-based designer Shiloh Sukkau (who has worked on Tacofino Gastown, Yaletown, and Oasis) uses elements like concrete, wood, steel, and greenery for a cool and contemporary atmosphere.

A lush planter is one of the centerpieces in the restaurant.

As for the menu, guests will be able to find unique items created by Tacofino co-founder Jason Sussman and the restaurant’s Michelin-starred chef Stefan Hartmann. Ocho will offer dishes like fire-grilled, char-roasted meat and veggie plates, as well as new taco inventions—think grilled skirt steak, crispy cod, and squid, among others.

New share plates will also be available, such as whole grilled rockfish, half chicken, pork belly, top sirloin, grilled romaine salad, and queso fundido (melted cheese dish).

Quench your thirst with its varied drink selections, which range from rotating local beers on tap and import beers, to house-made tequila-based cocktails and sangria by the glass or pitcher.

“Mount Pleasant is such a vibrant and exciting place and exactly the sort of neighbourhood we like to call home,” said Sussman, in a press statement. “Ocho has given us the opportunity to share some fresh menu ideas more closely related to the things we like to cook for our friends and family.”

Tacofino has been a popular hit ever since it was launched in Tofino as a humble food truck back in 2009. Its other outlets are located in Gastown, Yaletown, Hastings-Sunrise, and Downtown Vancouver; it also operates three food trucks around the city.
