Vancity Original drops nostalgia-inducing Grizzlies collection

The Vancouver Grizzlies may have hit the road for Memphis almost two decades ago, but you don’t have to look far—just see this year’s VIFF programming—for evidence that fond memories of the ill-fated NBA team are still very much seared into many residents’ minds.

Now, local streetwear shop Dipt (819 Hornby Street)—home to the Vancity Original brand—is capitalizing on the nostalgia factor with a limited-edition capsule collection that puts the city’s former b-ball crew front and centre. Created in partnership with American athleticwear label Mitchell & Ness and NBA Hardwood Classics, the Vancity Grizzlies line combines the recognizable Vancity graphic with images of the Grizzlies’ growling bear mascot and turquoise logo.

The collection is comprised of unisex hoodies, raglan Ts, and T-shirts (from $45), each available in white, grey, red, and black. There’s also an NBA–approved snapback.

The line drops at Dipt today (September 29), during a special pop-up shop that takes place from 4 to 10 p.m. Merchandise is available while supplies last.

To mark the occasion, the downtown-Vancouver boutique also coordinated a photoshoot with the Dipt Uptowners, a team of street ballers by the names of Joey “King Handles” Hayward, Jermaine “J Fresh” Foster, David “Hush” Katz, and Jamal “Where Ya At” Park, who became local celebs in the early aughts thanks to their prowess on the court during three-on-three tournaments.
