B.C. Coroners Service reports 195 suspected illicit-drug toxicity deaths in May

More than six people died per day in B.C. as a result of overdoses of street drugs in May.
According to the B.C. Coroners Service, the 195 "suspected illicit-drug toxicity deaths" were the highest ever recorded that month.
This marks a 20-percent increase over the same month in 2021 and a 13-percent rise over the fatality total in April.
The largest number of deaths occurred in Vancouver, Surrey, and Greater Victoria.
