The Last of Us reportedly headed to Vancouver for the upcoming filming of Season 2

Deadline is reporting that The Last of Us—one of the streaming juggernauts of 2023—will be relocating to Vancouver for filming on Season 2.

One of the reasons for the move is that upcoming episodes will be set in the Pacific Northwest, that reflecting the video game on which the series is based. Season 1 of the HBO hit was filmed in Alberta using over 180 locations. Should Season 2 urban locales be needed that suggest the world has someone gone completely off the rails, Vancouver can help with that too.

HBO hasn’t made the news of the move official, but Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim has suggested there’s truth to the rumour.

As reported by Global News, Sim told the Vancouver Economic Commission: “We’re incredibly excited to have one of the largest shows on television choose to film in Vancouver. Vancouver is Hollywood North—this announcement is a demonstration of our city’s continued strength in the film and television sector. As we look to the future, I’m confident that we will see even more productions decide to make their home here.”

The Last of Us has an adult character, Joel (Pedro Pascal), on a mission to protect a scrappy 14-year-old named Ellie (Bella Ramsey) from infected humans, and humans who’ve forgotten how to be human, after a global pandemic ends the world as we know it.

The apocalyptic drama, which has shades of The Walking Dead, Dawn of the Dead, The Stand, Mickey Mantle's 1976 athlete's foot commercial, and every gardener who's ever waged a losing war with creeping bellflower, became an out-of-the-gates hit after debuting in January. Currently sitting on Rotten Tomatoes with a 96 percent fresh rating, tt was renewed by HBO for a second season just weeks after premiering.
