Ayra Starr’s early adulthood has been a medley of milestone moments.

At 16, she began a career in fashion. At 17, she signed with Marvin Records. At 19, she released her first full-length mixtape, aptly titled 19 & Dangerous

And now, at 21, the Nigerian singer is in the midst of her—again aptly-named—21: The World Tour, which is landing her at Vancouver’s Enso Event Centre on Tuesday, September 19.

Starr’s music rocketed onto the world stage with her debut EP in 2021, with its track “Away” reaching number 17 on the Billboard Top Triller Global chart. But it was “Bloody Samaritan”, the standout song from follow-up 19 & Dangerous, that helped land Starr as number three on Billboard’s Next Big Sound (and got her a MOBO Awards nomination to boot).

Starr really hit her stride in 2022, with the song “Rush” attaining worldwide reverence. Case in point: the music video for “Rush” has been watched 235 million times in the 11 months since it was uploaded to YouTube. To kick off 2023, the artist released her latest single, “Sability”, which has found a spot in Rolling Stone’s Best Songs of 2023 So Far list.

So yeah, you could say that the rising starr (get it?) is not one to miss on her blazing journey to the top.

Starr is at the Enso Centre on Pacific Boulevard on Tuesday night for a 19-plus show. Tickets are still available through Eventbrite starting at $65.
