Prior to Remembrance Day, several donations intended to support veterans and their families were stolen in New Westminster and police are seeking to identify a suspect from surveillance footage.

Around 2 p.m. on November 8, an adult male entered the Royal Canadian Legion at 631 6th Street in New Westminster. After he ordered and paid for his food at the cash register, staff noticed that the donation tin for poppies disappeared.

After staff reviewed video surveillance, they discovered that the man appeared to hide the tin while he was making his payment for his meal.

He is described a Caucasian male about 50 to 60 years old with balding grey hair and a grey beard. He was wearing a two-tone sweatshirt.

Although staff later located the donation tin outside, it was empty.

The incident was one of three poppy-donation thefts that took place in New Westminster on November 8.

Anyone with information is asked to call the New Westminster Police at 604-525-5411.
