The Vancouver sports radio wars continue as TSN 1040 makes major addition

Rick Dhaliwal didn’t stay unemployed very long.

The former Sportsnet 650 host was let go yesterday morning, along with three co-workers.

That prompted a wave of social media criticism toward the station, as listeners wondered how the network could part with Dhaliwal, one of Vancouver media’s true insiders.

Indeed, Dhaliwal seemingly had a close relationship with many agents around the league and would often break Canucks news before the household names that grace national TV in Toronto.

That’s not easy to do. And it didn’t take long for Sportsnet 650’s main rivals, TSN 1040, to recognize Dhaliwal’s value.

Hosts Don Taylor and Bob ‘Moj’ Marjanovich announced that Dhaliwal will be joining the station, likely during their weekday slot, which runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

It's a return for Dhaliwal, who was with the station from what the hosts called "day one."

It’s a massive coup for TSN 1040 and will no doubt add insult to injury for Sportsnet 650.
