Two people were sent to hospital after overdosing on the powerful pain killer fentanyl.

Delta police say that they took cocaine that was laced with the drug.

It's believed to be circulating in South Delta.

The two people are recovering and have not been identified.

Fentanyl often leads to quick overdoses.

Symptoms include cold, clammy skin and trouble walking or talking. Anyone who thinks they may be overdosing or is witnessing an overdose should call 911 immediately.

Last summer, Vancouver police Const. Brian Montague told the Straight that the drug is 50 to 100 times more toxic than morphine. He made the comment after there was a spike of overdoses in the Lower Mainland, which were linked to several deaths.
