The Elektra Women’s Choir has unveiled its 2024-25 season, dubbed A Season of Change. The momentous occasion will signify the end of an era as Morna Edmundson, the choir’s artistic director for 38 years, takes her final bow.

A Season of Change introduces three shows to audiences. The first, The Light of Hope Returning, is a multidisciplinary performance that focuses on the winter solstice and Christmas, composed by Shawn Kirchner. It is accompanied by art video projections by Syrian-American artist Kevork Mourad, known for his renowned collaborations with the likes of Yo-Yo Ma.

In the spring, Elektra will present The Lost Words: A Spell Book, a whimsical and musical interpretation of the best-selling book by Robert Macfarlane and Jackie Morris. This performance uses watercolour projections to cast “spells” and connect viewers with nature.

Legacy closes out the season as Edmundson’s version of a love mix-tape to the community, featuring nearly four decades of Elektra commissions plus new work by Laura Hawley, Cassie Luftspring, and Tawnie Olson.

“I count myself extraordinarily lucky to have found my life’s work, my passion, and my community in Elektra,” says Edmundon in a statement. “I am forever proud of our transformative work in the choral world and, I hope, in the lives of all our singers and listeners. This season will be a thrill to conduct. And then I look forward to enjoying the rich future of this choir from the audience.”
