Jacob Collier to unite Vancouver audiences with The Djesse Solo Show at the Queen E

The UK’s multi-talented Jacob Collier has announced a Vancouver show at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre, with audience participation not so much expected as pretty much a given. The 29-year-old, who’s often described as a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer, and educator, brings his The Djesse Solo Show to the West Coast on April 14. Tickets go on sale February 16 at 10am.

Fans of Collier know that he tends to do everything widescreen, whether in the studio or playing live backed by sprawling choirs. Records have seen him collaborating with stars ranging from Oumou Sangaré and John Mayer to Stormzy and Steve Vai. Live shows often have him coordinating his audiences in mass sing-alongs, songs drawing on everything from jazz and classical to world music and hip-hop.

Assuming you’re not—along with Chris Martin, John Legend, Tori Kelly, Madison Cunningham, Anoushka Shanka, and many more—already part of the Collier fan club, the whole experience might sound a little baffling, not to mention mildly cult-like.

This, from his camp, might explain things: “Five years have passed since Collier embarked on the epic musical journey of Djesse, which began as an ambitious idea to make one massive album. Djesse soon erupted into an expansive four-part series that encompasses every genre under the sun, culminating in a grand finale that combines all the elements that came before—and so much more. Through six Grammy wins and 12 nominations including Album of the Year for 2020’s Djesse Vol. 3, dozens of collaborations and hundreds of performances, Collier’s talent and imagination have continued to exceed his own stratospheric heights and led his fans to expect the unexpected.”

Still confused? Just show up, and let Collier be your guide from there.
