Norah Jones to play Vancouver as part of tour for “Visions”

Norah Jones will hit the road this summer for her ninth album, Visions, with tour dates including a stop in Vancouver. The New York singer and pianist plays the Queen Elizabeth Theatre on July 30, with tickets going on sale on March 1 at 10am.

Starting out as a lounge singer, Jones seemingly arrived out of nowhere in 2002, releasing a debut album, Come Away With Me, that shipped over 27 million copies worldwide, establishing her as an instant global star. While jazz and downbeat pop were early touchstones, subsequent records have seen her embrace alt-country, folk, and blues.

Over the course of her Grammy Award-winning career, Jones has collaborated with artists that range from jazz giant Bill Frissell to hip-hop heavyweight Danger Mouse to soul icon Ray Charles to platinum-selling punk Billie Joe Armstrong.

The singer has described the upcoming Visions as “a vibrant and joyous 12-song set...about feeling free, wanting to dance, making it right, and acceptance of what life brings.”

The album is meant as a bookend to her last one, Pick Me Up Off The Floor, which was released early in the pandemic lockdown of 2020 and foreshadowed the darkness of that period.

“The reason I called the album Visions is because a lot of the ideas came in the middle of the night or in that moment right before sleep...where you’re half asleep and kind of jolted awake,” Jones says in a statement. “We did most of the songs in the same way, where I was at the piano or on guitar and Leon was playing drums and we were just jamming on stuff. I like the rawness between me and Leon, the way it sounds kind of garage-y but also kind of soulful, because that’s where he’s coming from, but also not overly perfected.”
