She backed Chinese-language media commentator Gabriel Yiu's successful bid to defeat then–city councillor George Chow for the B.C. NDP's nomination in Vancouver-Fraserview last year.

Now, Meena Wong says she's thinking about running for the New Democrats in the adjacent electoral district that's west of Fraser Street: Vancouver-Langara.

The community activist expects a fight if she decides to go for it. “It will be contested,” Wong told the Straight in a phone interview.

Wong ran unsuccessfully for the federal NDP in Vancouver South in the May 2011 election.

In 2009, public-education advocate Helesia Luke ran as a New Democrat in Vancouver-Langara. She lost to B.C. Liberal MLA Moira Stilwell.

Luke told the Straight by phone that she has no intention of running provincially in 2013. According to her, she has heard that former B.C. Green candidate Matthew Laird is also looking at the prospect of seeking the B.C. NDP's nomination in Vancouver-Langara.

With New Democrats seen as likely to form the government in Victoria in 2013, a dark horse for the B.C. NDP may emerge in this traditionally B.C. Liberal constituency.

Vancouver Langara is a very extreme Right-wing riding ....
would be very tough for a centre-left party like the NDP to win

      Doesn't live in the riding

She ran unsuccessfully in Van South mostly due to the fact that most of the riding knew she did not live in that riding. She declared in the Georgia Straight here that she lives in Vancouver Quadra :

She's counting heavily on the ethnic vote which did not work well for her.

      George Chow should run

George Chow should consider this riding.
