Get your trail shoes ready, because the Grouse Grind is reopening this weekend.

Is there any hike more iconic in Vancouver than the Grind? The trail boasts nearly a quarter-million visitors annually, who embark on a 2.5-kilometre trail from 300 metres of elevation to 1,1100.

This year, the reopening—which takes place on April 27—will also come with new amenities and a new trailhead.

The trailhead will offer improved access, additional seating, a water station, stretching bars, and better access for first responders. Annual maintenance during the trail’s closure also provided the time needed to replace a footbridge over a creek and continue overall environmental restoration.

“The changes to the Grouse Mountain Regional Park trailhead are transformative,” shares John McEwen, chair of the Regional Parks Committee, in a statement. “Not only is the area more welcoming and attractive, it responds to the needs of hikers by giving them space to warm up for their big climb, fill their water bottles, and get familiar with the park maps.”

Hopefully the rain holds off enough for you to hit nature’s StairMaster on opening day.
