Photos: Meinhardt grocery opens today in downtown Vancouver
As a commuter through downtown Vancouver, I've long wished there was a more convenient grocery store near Granville Skytrain station. In other cities around the world, there are kiosks selling produce in their underground stations, or grocery stores at the entrance. Why not Vancouver?
Well, it just got a little bit easier to pick up that lemon you need for your pasta recipe or a rotisserie chicken to call dinner.
Meinhardt Fine Foods opens today (September 18) on the corner of Granville and Dunsmuir. That's steps from the Dunsmuir street entrance to the Granville Skytrain station—and in the midst of a district of hungry office workers. The store is billed as being in Pacific Centre, but it's accessible at street level.
Don't get too excited—it's not a huge place to roll a cart down the aisles. But at 3,500 square feet, it's not small either. Many essentials are there for a grab-and-go meal or last-minute item to round out a home-cooked meal.
There are also plenty of lunch options for the office crowd, including a salad bar, deli, and some killer-looking pastries for days when you need a lift.
I checked it out at a media preview September 17. Here's what's in store.
Meinhardt Pacific Centre is open Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
