While fares for WestJet flights from Vancouver to London may look attractively low, travellers will need to keep something in mind.

On these nine-hour transatlantic flights to London's Gatwick airport, there are no free meals if you're flying economy.

WestJet will become the first carrier to do so on flights from Vancouver to Europe.

A WestJet representative informed CBC News that within Canada, the carrier is the only one that charges for hot meals in their economy section. Offering free meals has never been a part of their business model.

There are also charges for first- and second-checked bags on economy flights while the first-checked bag is complimentary on Flex fares and both bags are complimentary on Plus fares.

The non-stop service began on May 6 and operates six times a week until October 21.
