The Georgia Straight proudly sponsors New Works for String Orchestra and Vancouver Electronic Ensemble

      On November 3, 7:30 p.m., Vancouver New Music presents New Works for String Orchestra and Vancouver Electronic Ensemble at the Annex (823 Seymour Street).

      The concert is presented as part of ISCM World New Music Days 2017 and will feature the Vancouver Electronic Ensemble and the Vancouver New Music String Orchesta playing a selection of new and recent works for string orchestra by four composers, representing four countries.

      Opening the evening will be the Canadian premiere of Suzuki Kotoka's In Praise of Shadows (Canada), performed by members of the Vancouver Electric Ensemble. The first half of the program will also feature the Vancouver Electronic Ensemble in a live remix of the string-orchestra pieces that will follow.

      The second half of the program will feature four works for string orchestra: the world premiere of Linda Catlin Smith’s Orient Point (Canada), the Canadian premieres of Michiko Fukazawa’s Lemminkainen’s Mother (Japan) and Serena Teatini’s Mi Fa (Italy), and Jay Schwartz’s Music for Orchestra III (Germany/U.S.).

      Tickets for New Works for String Orchestra and Vancouver Electronic Ensemble are $35, $25, and $15 and are available at the door, online, or by calling 1-800-838-3006. Tickets can also be purchased as part of multishow packages, which are available through the ISCM 2017 website.
