From October 25 to November 5, the 14th Annual Downtown Eastside Heart of the City Festival takes place at various locations throughout the Downtown Eastside.

The event, presented by Vancouver Moving Theatre in association with Carnegie Community Centre and the Association of United Ukrainian Canadians, features over 100 events at over 50 Downtown Eastside locations.

The theme of this year's festival pays tribute to women from all walks of life, past and present, in the Downtown Eastide through 12 days of music, stories, songs, poetry, cultural celebrations, films, theatre, dance, processions, spoken word, workshops, discussions, gallery exhibitions, mixed media, art talks, history talks, and history walks.

This year's highlights include the premiere of new chamber opera Missing, interactive sound installation Summoning (No Words), storytelling and dance production Crow's Nest and Other Places She's Gone, an evening of jazz music at the Carnegie Theatre, and the Women in the Round concert, featuring the voices of Dalannah Gail Bowen, Renae Morriseau, Helen Duguay, and Sara Cadeau.

The mandate of the Downtown Eastside Heart of the City Festival is to promote, present, and facilitate the development of artists, art forms, cultural traditions, heritage, activism, popele, and stories about Vancouver's Downtown Eastside.
