The Vancouver Canucks are best in the league right now, and it's finally time to bring Rogers Arena up to match.

The NHL team’s latest part of their $150 million upgrade plan for their home arena involves making the seating experience more comfortable, by upgrading the chairs and adding exactly what you need for your mandatory oversized hockey beer: cupholders.

“Last August, ownership committed to replacing all seats in the building,” says Michael Doyle, business operations president for Canucks Sports & Entertainment, in a release. “The project, which will begin when the hockey season is over, is something our members and fans have been requesting for some time, and we understand its importance.”

It’ll take some time before you can sink your tush into the new custom-designed black seats, though. The upper and lower bowl seats will be replaced over the course of the next two summers, meaning we’re stuck with the current maroon mediocrities for another year.

Other planned improvements as part of the upgrades include a digital screen on the concourse level, and a new “sports and entertainment experience” on Level 400. What does that mean? Who knows—probably not even the people promising it! But it’ll probably be fun!

With a capacity of almost 20,000 people, Rogers plays host to more than just sports events. Concerts, comedians, and touring spectaculars also bring spectators to the venue, drawing in more than two million visitors each year.

“With our new seating and our new state-of-the-art videoboard installed,” Doyle adds, “when you step into the Rogers Arena bowl, it will feel like you are in a new building.”
