I want a sexy 90s office romance

It was really easy to flirt and romance at the office. Today, it's just an idea that gets you fired. No wonder everyone hardly lives at the office and dies single these days.

Easy for you, awful for us

I wonder why?

Give this some thought. I suspect you weren’t one of the people who were the target of some unwanted attention from some guy who “just wanted to flirt”. There’s a very good reason why that behaviour is frowned upon now. Take it from a woman who dealt with countless incidents of sexual harassment during the 80’s, 90’s, and early 200’s. Basically all the time up until the Me Too movement shone a spotlight on it. So many of us were harmed and so many women had to quit the job while the guy kept his. The workplace isn’t a dating scene.

Yes, sounds good in theory but can backfire big time in real life. Hot romance can easily turn sour and then you have this noxious atmosphere at work.

Your Perfume Smells Pretty.

I, a woman, once complimented another woman on her perfume as I was waiting my turn at the photocopier in the office. She was a temp. I asked her what it was and where I might buy it. Her face blanched and she walked away. An hour later, my supervisor told me that she accused me of sexual harassment. Then we both laughed our asses off. The temp was quickly blacklisted. This happened in the late 90s. Not sexy.

You can thank all the assholes for that

Okay, look. Many couples actually do meet at work. I remember when Jay Leno did his last episode of the Tonight Show (the first time) he said that he felt his legacy was connected to all the couples who met while working on the show and the children they went on to have. Cute, right?
But all the toxic assholes who wouldn't take a hint and started harassing and pestering women at work largely ruined the possibility of an "office romance." So, everyone should blame those douchebags instead of blaming feminists and the MeToo movement.
Personally, there's been lots of women at work who I've been attracted to over the years. But my problem isn't that flirting with them would get me fired, it's that they're all out of my league and wouldn't date me if I was the last man on earth.
Such is life I guess.

Fun story from the 90's

A manager kept flirting with me and I turned him down. He retaliated by fabricating lies about me and I was fired. Good times.

Classic “i’m going to die single if I can’t sexually harass my coworkers” situation, eh?

You seem like 90s scrooges. No wonder we've lost all ability to enjoy life and liberty in Canada. Everyone is miserable now because of you fanatics.
