I'm really uncomfortable with the overuse of the word "creepy." Granted, there are behaviors some men do that definitely qualify as creepy. I would define it as a deliberate attempt to make women feel uncomfortable or intimidated. A man sitting alone in a coffee shop minding his own business is not creepy. Does he stare? Being stared at feels very uncomfortable. If he's a starer, you could try walking on the other side of the street.

If this person is truly giving you the creeps on a gut level, I don't want to minimize that.

However, labeling an undistracted person enjoying a coffee and a baked good "creepy" is a stretch. This perception feels like it stems from the systemically warped approach Vancouverites have to relating with each other.

I'm imagining the South Park episode where this guy gets arrested for not scrolling his phone like a "normal" person.

You don't always have to watch the world through a hypnotic device even when you're eating. There's always the world directly in front of you as well.

You won't like Europe, where there are hundreds of men sitting outside a coffeehouse having a coffee, eating a baked good and watching the day go by, every day. It's such a shame everybody in this world can't cater to you and your tiny world, isn't it?
