One Great Thing I Ate: The cheeseburger from Monarch Burger

“This is a chef’s burger,” Karl Gregg says, as I stare lovingly at the burger and fries before me. He’s not wrong.

It was just last month that Gregg, owner of Rosie’s BBQ, teamed up with fellow local chef Robert Belcham to relaunch Monarch Burger. The long-loved (and long-lost) burger joint created by Belcham has been resurrected with all of the same recipes, and it is just as good as long-time fans will remember it being.

Custom-made buns. House-made beef patties. Secret sauces. It’s all here (plus addictive beef-fat fries), and the result is nothing short of delicious.

Monarch is slinging burgs out of the Rosie’s food truck, which pops up at different locations around town and can most recently be found at Batch Plaza. Even on a drizzly day, it’s very much worth the trip.
