The end of a decade is normally a fairly momentous event for those who attend New Year's Eve festivities.

But the heavy downpour in Metro Vancouver along with heavy winds have led to the cancellation of fireworks shows on Grouse, Cypress, and Seymour mountains.

Indooor activities will go ahead on Grouse Mountain in the Chalet Auditorium with the live band, Toy Zebra, performing from 7 to 9:30 p.m.

There will also be a live DJ from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.

In addition, Grouse Mountain will host the Kellie Haines Ventriloquist Show, as well as New Year's Eve dinner with two seatings in the Observatory and two hours of maximum seating in Altitudes Bistro.

Environment Canada warned that up to 60 millimetres of rain would fall in Metro Vancouver over a 24-hour period leading into New Year's Eve.
