Mark Your Calendar: Public Disco announces pop-up parties for summer

Are you ready to dance?

Public Disco has announced its summer series of events that will bring four days of DJ beats to the city between June and September.

Two all-ages free block parties will open and close the summer event series: one at Lot 55 (behind Granville Island Brewing) on June 8, and one at Bentall Centre on September 7. Artists for the all-ages parties will be announced closer to the time.

Both block parties promise kids’ activities, hangout zones, food trucks, and pop-up bars serving both hard and non-alcoholic drinks.

“I am excited for this year’s Summer Series to return bigger than ever with four events throughout Vancouver in 2024,” says Nickolas Collinet, executive director of Public Disco Society, in a statement. “These events continue to fulfill our mission of combating social isolation by creating shared cultural experiences that foster a collective sense of belonging.”

In the height of summer, there are two ticketed, 19+ events. A Public Disco x SLAB Block Party will take over the City Centre Artist Lodge in Mount Pleasant on July 20. Curated by Bass Coast Festival co-curator Max Ulis, the party will feature Cali talent with San Francisco DJ Justin Martin and Los Angeles producer NALA.

Then, on August 3, a Pride party will star Chicago house music DJ Shaun J. Wright and Portland producer Sappho behind the decks. The party, hosted in partnership with Vancouver Pride Society’s Canada Pride 2024, will take over the intersection at West 3rd Avenue and Ontario.
