Remote working: it’s a new reality that many people share—especially post-pandemic, with the rise of illustrious co-working spaces, and the glamorous allure of the digital nomad lifestyle.

Vancouver-based director Julien Caprano’s latest film, Work Different (Travailler autrement), explores the roots, advantages, and flexibility of remote work—but not without examining its environmental implications and mental health effects.

As part of the 30th Rendez-vous French Film Festival, the French- and English-language film will have its Vancouver premiere at SFU Woodwards next Thursday (February 29), with Caprano in attendance.

The film is shot across Canada—some of it in Vancouver itself—leaning on experts, managers, researchers, and workers for their perspective on exchanging the nine-to-five slog and breaks around the watercooler to video-conferencing in our underwear.

Work Different (Travailler autrement) will be available to stream online for free starting March 1 at nfb.ca.
