Responsible for some of the most influential records in the history of punk rock, guitarist Greg Ginn will bring Black Flag to Vancouver on January 1, 2024. The band will play two sets at Fortune Sound Club, the first consisting of 1984’s My War in its entirety, the second rolling out the greatest hits.

Ginn formed Black Flag in the mid ’70s, with early records like the Nervous Breakdown and Jealous Again EPs, and 1981’s landmark Damaged providing a blueprint for countless acts to come.

The band has been cited as a major influence by acts such as My Chemical Romance and Bring the Horizon, with future Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan and the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Flea crediting Black Flag for making them want to play music.

The group's “four bars” logo, by artist Raymond Pettibon, has, meanwhile, become one of the most iconic in rock ’n’ roll, popping up everywhere from grimy punk clubs to fashion runways.

Ginn has been the sole constant member of Black Flag, which at various points has been fronted by Keith Morris (Circle Jerks), Henry Rollins, and Vancouver-based Ron Reyes. The lineup he’ll bring to Vancouver includes professional skateboarder Mike Vallely on vocals.

Fortune celebrates its 15th anniversary this year, with the club describing Black Flag as day one of the festivities.
