Who among us doesn’t love indie record shops? Good vibes. Great products. Inevitably some crustpunk who’s been working there for 60 years judging your browsing options. And sometimes, exclusive events!

Dark Matter, the latest album from grunge heavyweights Pearl Jam, officially drops on April 19. But indies across the country are getting exclusive access to the record this weekend.

On April 14, Vancouverites can head to Red Cat Records on Main Street to hear Eddie Vedder and co’s upcoming 12th album surrounded by some fellow music fans. The event also promises to include some exclusive giveaways and the opportunity to pre-order the record—or the special edition that drops on April 20 for Record Store Day Canada.

There are only 50 spots up for grabs, so interested listeners should reserve their spots via Red Cat’s website starting at 5pm today (April 10).

“No hyperbole, I think this is our best work,” Vedder said at a recent Grammy listening party. “We’re still looking for ways to communicate. We’re at this time in our lives when you could do it or you could not do it, but we still care about putting something out there that is meaningful.”

And there’s plenty of time to learn the words before the five-piece take to the stage at Rogers Arena on May 4 and 6, kicking off a world tour just across the border from their native Seattle.

Grunge is back, baby—or maybe it never left at all.
