You Nearly Missed: Lil Xan at The Pearl

It’s going to be total Xanarchy at The Pearl this Friday night (April 12), as 27-year-old California rapper Lil Xan will take the stage alongside Lil Godd and Lil Kid.

Lil Xan—whose real name is Nicholas Diego Leanos—rose to fame in the mid 2010s, making waves with his brand of emo-rap, along with his controversial face tattoos and nod to prescription drugs.

(“Xan” gives a nod to Xanax, the street name of alprazolam: an anti-anxiety drug commonly recreationally used as a tranquilizer.)

The young artist’s standout song “Betrayed” hit the Billboard Hot 100 at number 64 in 2017, catching the attention of bigger names in the music business—like Diplo, who went on to produce “Color Blind” on his only studio album, Total Xanarchy.

Seven years on, Lil Xan continues to redefine the rap genre in live performances, giving Vancouverites something to sway to this weekend.
