Everyone can relate to the loneliness that occurred as part of the early pandemic lockdowns.

As people were ordered to stay inside, lives became a little—well, a lot—isolating.

Enter Shay Kuebler’s MOI—Momentum of Isolation, a theatre, dance, and multimedia performance that sheds light on our human need for social connection—and what happens when we don’t get it.

“Shay Kuebler’s dedication to crafting inventive performance pieces that confront the immediate human experience is to be admired,” says Firehall Arts Centre's artistic producer Donna Spencer in a release. “MOI is one of those powerful works. Shay began his exploration of isolation and loneliness at the 2020 Dancing on the Edge Festival when the world was in the early stages of pandemic lockdown and the festival was presented online. His combination of digital and powerful physical movement allows us to feel how that loss of touch continues to affect us.”

Through solo and group performances—along with live interactive video, puppeteering, and stagecraft—the show nods to complex human dynamics railroaded by technology’s ability to shift our values and adapt to a digital way of life.

What better way to combat loneliness than to gather at the theatre and be in awe of great art?
