While sushi shops and izakayas formerly reigned near the intersection of Robson and Denman streets in Vancouver's West End, ramen shops have since come to dominate the area.

Further contributing to noodle supremacy, a sushi shop has shut down in the area.

Sapporo Japanese Restaurant, located at 1709 Robson Street, opened in December 2012.

The restaurant's reasonably priced menu offered a broad selection of maki rolls and sashimi, as well as tempura, teriyaki, donburi, and udon.

However, it closed its doors permanently on Boxing Day (December 26). A note on the door states that the closure is due to retirement.

The Robson shop was the restaurant's second location, after its first at 120–4255 Arbutus Street at Arbutus Shopping Centre.
