We asked some of our favourite chefs and restaurateurs in the city where they go on their days off.

What's your Vancouver restaurant go-to? A place you never get sick of-one that always delivers.

My favourite go-to place has to be Mogu Fried Chicken on Commercial Drive. It’s my go-to place to catch up with friends and have a good time. Their crispy fried chicken is just perfect with a glass of chilled beer.

What’s one restaurant in Vancouver that you think deserves more love? An unsung hero, if you will.

An unsung hero in my opinion would be Folke, located on Broadway. It’s a vegan restaurant that specializes in share plates; I love their modern take on the concept. A must try!

What’s one Vancouver restaurant you love taking out-of-towners to impress them?

Jinya Ramen Bar on Robson is one of the restaurants that I personally love ordering from. The food is wholesome with perfect seasonings; it hits home and I am sure people will be impressed by it.

What’s your favorite Vancouver place to get a great drink?

Pourhouse for its cozy, vintage-inspired atmosphere, craft cocktails, and elevated comfort food menu. Located in Gastown, Pourhouse offers a warm and inviting ambiance with its exposed brick walls, dim lighting, and rustic decor. The menu features a variety of dishes made with locally-sourced ingredients, including artisanal cocktails, hearty mains, and shareable plates.

In your opinion, who’s up and coming in the Vancouver restaurant scene? This could be a bartender, a chef, a restauranteur, or a restaurant itself.

Someone who’s up and coming in the Vancouver restaurant scene would be Tushar Kandalgaonkar, sous chef at Botanist at the Fairmont Pacific Rim. We share the same hometown. A talented chef yet to be in the limelight.

      What’s Vancouver’s food scene missing?

I feel what’s missing in Vancouver’s food scene has to be its own street food. Countries all over the world have popular food carts that have delicious offerings at a reasonable price. It becomes a tourist attraction as well.
