Just Announced: King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard at Pacific Coliseum

Australian noise merchants King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard are set to return to Vancouver in 2024 with their biggest show to date.

The six-piece rock band will bring their brand of innovative heaviness to the Pacific Coliseum on September 12, 2024 as part of an extensive world tour taking them across the UK, Europe, and North America.

Previously, the band has brought its sprawling discography to local venues including the Vogue Theatre, Stanley Park’s Malkin Bowl, and most recently the Harbour Event Centre—not exactly your usual trajectory for a psychedelic garage rock group, but a suitably interesting one nevertheless.

As one of Australia’s hardest working musical acts, the band have released 25 albums since their formation in 2010, spanning countless genres, styles, and memeable moments. The 2022 releases Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms and Lava and Laminated Denim made our top albums list last year, “infusing elements of psych, jazz, and krautrock into a combined mind-bending 90 minutes.”

The sixsome’s most recent offerings, 2023’s PetroDragonic Apocalypse; or, Dawn of Eternal Night: An Annihilation of Planet Earth and the Beginning of Merciless Damnation and The Silver Cord, may well be several records passed by the time the show comes by.

Ten months is, after all, plenty of time to bang out a couple of new albums when you’re the masters of the Gizzverse.
